I’ve just signed up for their 30 day trial, and at £6/month for all you want TV/Movies (from their not-so-amazing but okaaaay library) it beats Lovefilm’s shitty £10/month disc rental method with limited shitty streaming that buffers all the time. It’ll be great competition rivalry though.

One downfall is they only support Mac and PC for the desktop, no Linux support yet. However they also support Apple TV, PS3, Xbox, and Wii.

Hey look, they even have Outrageous Fortune:

If you are living outside of the US and want to watch those TV shows offered to the Americans, you can. There are a couple of ways to do this, using a proxy via SSH is a great way to keep this going in the background.

I use Boxee which has access to great content, unfortunately some shows such as South Park and Comedy Central are blocked due to geolocation.

I’ve found this article to be a great help for OS X users (using Terminal) to tunnel into a US-based server (mine being Dreamhost). This can be pretty slow, so you’d prolly have to paid some notes for a fast server.

Obviously you must agree to the terms and conditions, which probably have some sort of ass-covering legalities such as the DMCA.

The service is extremely fast. Collecting an 8gb torrent took only about 10mins. Then downloading it took me about 2 hours. The service also has some sort of realtime transcoding going on too. It can convert most types of video/audio to suite streaming.

The servers are based in The Netherlands, security and privacy is pretty tip top. On their website they state:

Your files are your business. We do not log your location, isp or ip address.

SSL can be configured in the users account panel.

Prices start at $US4.90 for 10gb storage and 10gb bandwidth.

And… There’s a Boxee plugin too.

A recent episode was broadcast which is the same idea i have about how the universe works. How the big bang happens, then forms galaxies, then planets, then life. Life dies, planets die, suns die, galaxies implode, universe implodes. Then suddenly, BANG. Another big bang happens. And the same sequence of events follows.

It transcodes MKV and other foreign files to the PS3 in realtime, over wifi or ethernet. You’ve got full control over the video and audio settings too which looks nice.
