Windows in general is a pain in the bum. I’ve had to install it on my media PC for the TV as Netflix only support PC/Mac – not Linux.

However when configuring Windows I found I couldn’t access my Mac. I restarted everything including the router. Nothing. It kept asking for my username & password (the account that has access on the Mac). I then did a quick search and found this piece of information:

You have to manually disable security polices to connect to LAN based NTLM. Go to Local Security Policy; find Network security: LAN Manager Authentication and set it to “Send LM & LTLM Responses”. Find Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP (may be 2 of them) and set it to “no minimum”

Without knowing this I would probably be in the corner, crying and gorging on a whole thing of candy beans.

I did a fresh install of OS X recently and tried to go to www.macblurayripperpro.com but only got a “Welcome to cPanel” message. This means the guy that’s made the software has ruined his website or has gone and someones “taken over”. I fear that he has been chased by authorities and has tried to clean his footsteps.

However, if you are looking for the application (1.0.4 is the only one i could find), it’s okay, I have it safe served here; Mac Bluray Ripper Pro

A game I paid for and played on the iPhone “Cut the Rope” was a fun game of trying to help a monster eat candy. Simple game, but highly addictive.

It has just been released on Android, for free – however it comes (like many Android apps) with adverts.

One game in particular, Angry Birds is great to play – however it is littered with adverts. (BTW, one way i know of to avoid this is to put your phone onto airplane mode.) Playing the game, adverts are splashed along the top of the screen – so sometimes you can’t actually see part of the game. This ruins the experience. A lot.

Image is for illustrative purpose only

Cut the Rope however uses adverts wisely. Only during cutscenes or menus. This is fantastic, because I’d be more inclined to click an advert while I’m not playing a game. You don’t want to be interrupted while you’re doing something right? But if you’re not doing anything, do probably don’t mind the interruption.

For example, if you’re on your way to work and a bit late – someone asks for a couple minutes of your time for a survey – you normally say no. But, if you’re wondering around at lunchtime, you’d be more likely to stop and do the survey.

I’ve been needing some more storage in my room. As i lay in bed one morning waiting for my alarm to go off, i thought of the ginormous space above me. I thought, i should put some of that space underneath me… Just like thet00lman did in his shoebox room on Mt Vic.

So i went and had a look on Ikea for something suitable. I didn’t really know what to look for, i was thinking maybe some plastic crates, enough to withstand a small elephant.

However the next morning, there was a post on Lifehacker on that exact idea. Some guy had bought a couple bookcases to make a cheap bed base, with easy-access storage. (via Ikeahack)

This seemed like the solution, except i wanted my Malm bed on top of the bookcases laying horizontally flat. I went to Ikea early and bought two bookcases. Came home, put them together (quite quickly) and had a hell of a time trying to get them downstairs into my room, lifting the bed up while nudging the bookcases into place.

Once in place i realised they’re too high. So instead of resting the Malm bed on top of the bookcases naturally, I rest the bed on the long supporting side bars. One thing to note is that the bookcases are about 17cm longer than the bed. It however would suit a 160cm wide bed – but i’m happy as it is a natural bed side table.

It’s steady as a rock and a fair bit of room underneath now.

I’ve found a sneaky recipe for cooking chicken (and other meats except seafood) which keeps in the moisture, but allows the meat to cook without becoming dry and tasteless.

When I was working in the deli at Thordon New World (chain supermarket in NZ), I met a nice old chinese lady who gave me tips into Chinese cooking. At the time I wasn’t much of a cooker. I bought lots of take aways and didn’t really respect food.

But now, after a decade of living life, I’ve discovered food and started to really enjoy cooking.

I’m a pseudo-vegetarian (in the lightest sense). I don’t eat red meat or pork. However I eat fish and chicken. I think of chicken as a vegetable with a beak. And fish are the vegetables of the sea.

Tonight I made ‘fizzy chicken’. Something my mum commented on when telling the family about a method to tenderise meats. The not-so-secrete is plain old fizzable sodium bicarbonate. So here’s my simply guide to cooking up some choice fizzy chicken:

Step 1:
Cut up your chicken (or beef, lamb or pork) into forkable bits

Step 2:
Spoon over 1 1/2 teaspoons of sodium bicarbonate per 400g of meat

Step 3:
Mix around roughly and work the meat around with your hands until the sodium bicarbonate has bonded into a sticky mess with the meat. Let it sit for about 20mins. What happens next (scientifically) is <del>anyones guess</del> that the sodium bicarbonate bonds to the protein strands and creates a blocking agent at the end of each fibre. When the meat is cooking, vapour and liquids are trapped and remain in the meat, rather than escaping in steam form. You can give it a light rinse off before cooking, however i leave it on to give it a slight batter.

Step 4:
Cook the meat as normal, use a wee bit of oil (couple of tablespoons of vegetable/groundnut oil) until golden and set aside. Pat down with paper towel and use in curry’s/stirfry/salad/sandwich/however.

Above, the chicken has been cooked with sliced garlic, which are the little bits you can see.

I use Boxee which has access to great content, unfortunately some shows such as South Park and Comedy Central are blocked due to geolocation.

I’ve found this article to be a great help for OS X users (using Terminal) to tunnel into a US-based server (mine being Dreamhost). This can be pretty slow, so you’d prolly have to paid some notes for a fast server.

A recent episode was broadcast which is the same idea i have about how the universe works. How the big bang happens, then forms galaxies, then planets, then life. Life dies, planets die, suns die, galaxies implode, universe implodes. Then suddenly, BANG. Another big bang happens. And the same sequence of events follows.

I like this.
