Windows in general is a pain in the bum. I’ve had to install it on my media PC for the TV as Netflix only support PC/Mac – not Linux.

However when configuring Windows I found I couldn’t access my Mac. I restarted everything including the router. Nothing. It kept asking for my username & password (the account that has access on the Mac). I then did a quick search and found this piece of information:

You have to manually disable security polices to connect to LAN based NTLM. Go to Local Security Policy; find Network security: LAN Manager Authentication and set it to “Send LM & LTLM Responses”. Find Network security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP (may be 2 of them) and set it to “no minimum”

Without knowing this I would probably be in the corner, crying and gorging on a whole thing of candy beans.

On the cusp of the iOS release, due today or any day now, iOS notifications is a great visual notification system on iPhone/iPad. However, OS X doesn’t have a native notification system. Growl is the closest thing we have as a notification system, however it is a 3rd party addon, and is now commercially sold in the AppStore for $1.99

Hopefully, the iOS notification system will come over to OS X, in Lion later in future updates. But realistically it will be released in the next paid-for update.

I’m surprised Apple haven’t bought Growl.

I paid about £20 for this great software about a year ago to backup my Bluray discs to HDD so I can watch them anytime without having to take them out of their jackets and fast forward the ads.

I did a fresh install of OS X recently and tried to go to www.macblurayripperpro.com but only got a “Welcome to cPanel” message. This means the guy that’s made the software has ruined his website or has gone and someones “taken over”. I fear that he has been chased by authorities and has tried to clean his footsteps.

However, if you are looking for the application (1.0.4 is the only one i could find), it’s okay, I have it safe served here; Mac Bluray Ripper Pro

I’d share the serial too, but I can’t find it

There was some controversy as to what happened with HPs webos, their latest device challenging the iPad, HP touchpad has died a death before even shipping.

Today, someone from Dixons announced the touchpad will sell for £89, usually selling for £349.

At just past 6pm gmt, dixons website indeed reflected that price for the 16gb, however shortly after, their site ground to a halt.

Those lucky enough will have themselves a cheap portable web browser and picture frame, while other keen consumers will be able to puck it up from Currys or PC World in the morning for the same price. While stocks last.

Their denote is that the <del datetime="2011-08-24T10:30:16+00:00">OS is and app storewill not continue,</del> device cannot compete with the iPad so are quickly throwing in the towel, hence the massive price cut. They said they will continue to support webOS.

Sounds like Sony has implemented their Copyright control on movies encoded with Cinavia technology. Most of the movies I watch are downloaded from the web. Most of them are available to me on Lovefilm, a monthly service I pay for all i can eat movies, or i own on DVD, or have already been publicly broadcast.

Last night I was watching a ripped movie – a crap one at that, but then suddenly the sound cuts out and I see this message appear:

Just goes to show Sony are indeed dicks. Cutting off Linux for PS3, enforcing their copyright measures, rootkitting PCs – what else?

To be honest, I used to have a lot of admiration for Sony but now that’s lost. As a games machine it’s pretty cool – however i prefer to game on PC using mouse & keyboard. The only game i really play is IL2 on PS3.

So now, I am building my own Boxee. Boxee plays internet media, shares it via Facebook, Twitter etc. Awesome.

Adobe are now offering a solution for students/freelancers which sounds viable. Instead of shelling out the $US900 or whatever to keep, you can just borrow the software for a while.

This scheme seems to be targeting the inbetweener developer/designer who may have pirated the software before or installed from an agency.

I like this idea however I still think adobe are charging way too much for their software. If they made a web developers version (which only had layers, layer effects and basic shapes) for like £99 – that’d be sweet. I’d prolly even buy a copy for home. But for £550, most of the stuff I won’t even use!
