present + past = new english mongrel

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

The English LOVE to ruin their language. One of their latest abominations is using past and present verbs in the same sentence, because “everyones doing and sounds so cool”.

For example:

“I am sat here next to Ashley”
and
“I was stood up at the concert next to John”

I dislike this much.

Flash PC graphics cards to use on OS X

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

The only graphics card upgrade I can buy with a warranty is through the Apple store, an ATI Radeon HD 4870 on sale for a pricey £286.00

In the PC world you can pick up a similar card for more than half that.

In fact, you can buy an ATI Radeon HD 4890 for about £180 or a newer ATI Radeon HD 5770 for £136!

All you need is a different type of graphics card power plug and Zeus software to flash the card.

Apparently it works for most ATI graphics cards – uncertain about the 5770 though.

New domain!

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Update your RSS feeds as I’ve changed the domain to marksy.com! Finally after 5 years some jerk gave up the name and I snagged it for a measly $10!

If you try go to the old mechanicalmarksy.com you should be redirected.

Post any problems related to this!

P.S. And a new logo…

Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral 5.1

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Here is possibly one of the greatest albums from the 90s. This unusually moving album mixed up with industrial, thrash, funk, dance, atmosphere and blues. Seriously, this album has it all. And all in 5.1 surround sound.

Remember, this download is for owners of the original Nine Inch Nails – The Downward Spiral (deluxe), SACD and is owned by either Nothing Records (ref. Wikipedia), Sony, Vertigo or Trent Reznor. I think Reznor sold the label “Nothing” then bought the rights back from whoever (Sony?).

Apple: "so sue me"

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

I’ve just discovered some code on Apple’s website that has a class name of “sosumi”.

To the untrained eye, it looks like a Japanese name or title, but when said out loud sounds like “So sue me”.

This class has been applied to the legal footer on their website.

Note gf probably stands for General Footer.

Dire Straits – Brothers in Arms 5.1

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Here is Dire Straits – Brothers in Arms in 5.1 surround sound. However I listened to it and think the channels might be screwed around.

Does anyones know how Apple Soundtrack Pro exports AC3? How does it decide each track to be a certain channel. I have tried changing the channels to surround mix but not sure if Soundtrack Pro picks the channeling up automatically or not.

Remember, this download is for owners of the original Dire Straits Brothers in Arms, SACD and is owned by Vertigo (UK) and Warner Bros (US).

Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon (5.1)

Sunday, March 14th, 2010

Success!

I’ve managed to rip a SACD via analog and remixed it to 5.1 AC3. Now you and I can enjoy the SACDs we own on a digital system.

I’ve recorded the SACD at 48khz and is not split into chapters/songs. This is how Pink Floyd intended the album to be.

Remember, this download is for owners of the original Pink Floyd (The) Dark Side of the Moon, SACD and is owned by EMI.
