Tonight I am attending one of the greatest in shockrock entertainment ever, Marilyn Manson. I’ve been waiting for a while now to see the crazy entertaining mock shock rock and antagonise society.
This concert is following up his latest album Eat Me Drink Me, which is a lot different to any of his previous works. Self claimed as a suicidal-romantic love anthem. Indeed its dreary yet heartfelt.
I’m meeting my flatmate Ellen there as she is into metal too. Beardy will remain at home as he has no interest in this style of music.
Prolly will buy the tshirt. Hopefully don’t get my phone knicked this time :p
Update: Indeed it was an absolutely outstanding concert. He played a couple from the new album a lot slower and melodic than some of the earlier ones. His comic antics on stage were also well done. From twisting and turning upside down on a massive chair to throwing his tshirt on the floor (instead of the crowd), shruging then commanding a stage hand to pick it up for him.
The Dope Show was a largely anticipated track, with the words “the drugs are made right here in England” – a usual location swap from “made in California”.
Another was the latest single from Eat Me, Drink Me “Heart-shaped Glasses” – including a robotic doppelgänger of his 19-year-old girlfriend. Suddenly and violently cutting off her head, with her continuing to walk around the stage. So wish i had a video of this, was really freaky.
Yes, bought an official tshirt and poster. Well worth it.
He seemed well on performance too. None of this mucking around with the crowd to sing the songs, much except…
Fight!!! Fight!!!! Fight!!!!
Yep, I was there too with some friends, had an amazing time, he’s the king of live performers, could well be the best concert I’ve been to yet. Came in at under 1 and a half hours total, which is short for a Wembley gig, but they all gave so much it just didn’t matter. Great crowd, friendly bunch, real cameraderie, any aggression was focussed somewhere else (office, in laws, whatever), NOT on each other there, and unlike Marksy I love a bit of audience participation (but like Marksy not too much), and there were plenty of opportunities to raise a fist and have a shout.
Brilliant brilliant brilliant.
Oh, and I bought a t-shirt too, best tour t-shirts I’ve seen for a while, and good value too.
Shame about the Turbonegro bass player’s unfortunate comment at the end of their set. He didn’t mean what he said I don’t think, but boy did it come out wrongly…
