It seems like its been a long time since Korn have produced a really great album. Thinking back to 1998 when Follow The Leader dropped like a plate of freshly cooked spaghetti meatballs, it flew everywhere. Since then, they’ve attempted many times to better themselves, but unfortunately have been persistently going down the electronic route, (Issues, Untouchables, Take A Look In The Mirror and See You On The Other Side) – and lacking in real musical value.
While there have been some fun songs in between, i’ve felt i’ve been let down. I gather that the labels have been thumbing the band to push out new stuff all the time which has had a negative effect on the band, such as Head quitting the band in 2005 for reasons said to be that he wasnt interested in the direction the band was going. Which was fair enough.
Anyroad, i’ve just been lucky enough to hear the new album and wow. It is pretty much the follow up to Follow The Leader. If you throw out all the crap between then and now, you would see a scratch on them. This untitled album, with the idea of de-evolution – man going back to the ape stage, is a bit dark but very melodic and punchy – thus quite like Follow the Leader. There’s been a lot of thought into this album, and im glad to see that Atticus Ross was producing this album too who has had some work to do with Trent Reznor, and on Korn’s previous See You On The Other Side.
The best news is, they’re on Virgin which means DRM-FREE!
